A Prayer for Juneteenth 2025

In the name of the One who is for us, the One alongside us, and the One within us, grace to you and peace.

I invite our prayerful commemoration of Juneteenth Day, beginning with this prayer.

How long, O Lord? How long will your people suffer with this conspiracy of silence that sides with those who erase, oppress, and stoke fear?

Give us to know a Pentecost that frees every tongue for praise.

Give us to know a land where children enjoy clean water, air, vaccines, education, and freedom to turn dreams into reality.

Grant us a land where all may dwell secure and there is flourishing for both people and planet.

O God, may your church live and serve Christlike transformation.

Make our steps “faith working through love” (Galatians 5:6).

In Christ we live and pray.

Amen.

Loving and Gracious God, As we enter the warmth and brightness of summer, we give thanks for Your faithful presence in every season of our lives. Let the light of this season remind us of Your enduring love, bringing peace, healing, and renewed hope to our hearts and communities. As the congregation of The Redeemer of Calvary UMC, we lift our prayers for the Jefferson Park neighborhood and for all Your children around the world. May Your grace bring unity, healing, and transformation wherever it is needed. We lift up our dear brother Fred Menzer—grant him strength and full recovery during his time of healing and rehabilitation. Be near to all who are facing physical, emotional, or spiritual challenges. We pray for Marilyn Ebenstein, Ken & Denise, and their family—may they feel Your peace and comfort. Watch over Charlotte DeVoe, Dorothy Vomaska, and Eva Skowronski as they heal. Be with Mitchelle Kmiec as he prepares for surgery. Surround Lucy and Lupe Cervantes, Rita & Ramon Rodriguez, Al & Anita Rivera, and their families with Your steadfast love. We remember widows and widowers, asking You to fill their hearts with Your presence and companionship. We pray for single men and women—guide them and give them purpose. Be with our children and youth, especially those experiencing hardship—protect and uplift them. We lift up immigrants facing uncertain futures. Be their defender and source of strength. We pray for the homeless, especially those living with mental illness—bring healing, dignity, and compassion to their lives. As summer begins, may it also be a season of growth in our faith and service. Help us to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our neighborhoods. Let Your light shine through us in all we do. And we pray for peace in the world. Touch the hearts of leaders and inspire them to seek justice, mercy, and reconciliation. Let Your peace reign where there is division and pain. We pray all of this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
